Tristanwilds_90210_240Fast National ratings for Tuesday, Sept. 2, 2008

NBC and America's Got Talent captured the biggest overall audience on Tuesday night, but the revival of 90210 brought The CW some pretty solid demographic ratings.

NBC led the night with a 5.5 rating/9 share. FOX took second at 4.1/6, followed closely by CBS at 3.9/6. The CW drew a 3.4/5, and ABC trailed with a 2.8/4. (The CW also dominated the night in the teen and young-adult demos it targets.)

In the adults 18-49 demographic, the 90210 premiere led The CW to the top of the heap for the first time in the network's two-year-plus history, drawing a 2.6 rating. FOX took second at 2.4, with NBC right behind at 2.3. CBS averaged 1.6 and ABC 1.5.

America's Got Talent drew a 6.3/10 for NBC at 8 p.m. An NCIS rerun, 5.3/9, put CBS in second. Wipeout finished third for ABC. The 90210 premiere earned a 3.3/5 for The CW, although FOX's House rerun, 3.2/5, had a few more viewers.

NBC held the lead at 9 p.m. as America's Got Talent rose to 6.9/10. FOX moved up to second with more House, 5.0/8. Big Brother 10 was third for CBS, while 90210 improved to 3.4/5 in its second hour. ABC's Wanna Bet? came in at 2.5/4.

Coverage of the Republican National Convention took over the airwaves at 10 p.m. NBC had the biggest broadcast-net audience with a 3.3/6, while ABC and CBS tied at 2.1/4.

I'm interested to see how solid 90210 ratings stay. Was there any drop off between the first and second hour?

i recorded 90210 on my dvr and will continue to do so. i don't think it's good enough (yet) to watch when it's actually on. not sure yet what else will be airing opposite it when the full tv season starts.

I guess I out grew the show but thanks to a new generation it might live on.

Is there really any show that is worth watching live and putting up with irritating commercials?

Tyler L | Sep 3, 2008 9:51:25 PM | #

Unfortunately it airs opposite NCIS

I was a fan of the original until the late 90s. I think a lot of fans of the original, as well as the other series in the "90210" franchise, watched this premiere. I think people will have a high expectation and will probably be disappointed. But I liked the premiere and will watch until I lose interest.

I think the new show has got to get alot better and the characters have got to give us that feeling that they "mesh". So far, wasn't all that impressed, but will watch again to see if it improves.

I loved the new 90210 premier. I was worried about them bringing something modern yet in the spirit of the orignial, well done. I loved the tie in's with young Erin, Hannah and of course the best was having Brenda, Kelly, Nat and I see Jackie next week! Did anyone catch the jab to Andrea and Jesse's daughter when the teacher said something about "is she 30" since Andrea was near 30 in the first series when she played a school age teen. Hope the writers continue to tie in the old to appease the long time fans along with the modern feel of the new characters. Thank you, I didn't realize home much I missed this type of show until it was back. I can't wait till tuesday....we don't have Melrose Mondays anymore but this could be the start of a ...210 Tuesdays! I'm already hooked from next weeks preview!

Having been a true fan of the original 90210, I am very much looking forward as of where this new one will take us. Having Doherty and Garth back is great. Lets just hop the show picks up such a big audience that all the other original actors won't be able to stay away to long.
