TV Fashion: Rory Gilmore from 'Gilmore Girls' (CW)
College style that speaks for itself
A staple of college-age girls - both real and fictional - is outrageously expensive jeans. And if you, like Rory, attend Yale, you'd better look the part. And here she does not disappoint: From Citizens of Humanity jeans to James Jeans and everything in between, her denim collection is the sartorial dream of every young woman and her legs the dream of every young man. One of her favorite brands is Adriano Goldschmied's AG Jeans, in which she's been spotted in styles including the Stilt, Angel boot cut, Club and Kiss jeans.
Of course, it doesn't matter how great your jeans are if you don't happen to be wearing a top. And with censors being what they are, the costume designers keep modesty a viable option by giving Rory a never-ending supply of tanks, camisoles and stretch tops that cling nicely to her curves. Another body-hugging choice from her closet is a beautiful James Perse long tank. Its length allows the wearer to scrunch it up around the torso for a more textured appearance.
When going for that more demure look, Rory wears a short-sleeved snap-button black shirt with bow detailing from Prada. Another student look is the long sleeve button-down from Ben Sherman and the Juicy Couture velour zip hoody.
Is anyone else surprised by how cliche her clothing is when she happens to be so unconventional? Oh well, college kids are just supposed to think outside the box, not dress outside it.
Another great top on Rory is the Halogen twist-strap tank, available at Nordstrom. Pleated necklines in the front and back are accented with twisted straps over the shoulders. A wide-bottom band offsets the draping effect of this rayon top.
Completing her look are the requisite Converse Chuck Taylor All-Stars and Uggs in every shape imaginable. But our favorite footwear is her Nike "Air Zoom Danzante" dance fitness shoe. Its midfoot construction allows for dancing around parental questioning and relationship danger zones.
